Condition and Valuation Reporting for Boat Owners

Insurers commonly require current vessel information, general condition, safety findings and a supported market value before binding or renewing coverage.

Purpose of the Survey

The assignment documents the vessel’s identity, construction, machinery, equipment, apparent condition and material safety deficiencies for insurance underwriting. Requirements vary by carrier, so any insurer questionnaire or specific instructions should be provided in advance.

Typical Inspection Areas

  • Hull, deck and accessible structure
  • Propulsion and fuel systems
  • Electrical installations
  • Bilge, plumbing and steering systems
  • Fire protection and safety equipment
  • General condition and maintenance

Valuation

The report includes a supported opinion of current market value and, when requested and appropriate, estimated replacement value. Value is considered in relation to the vessel’s condition, equipment, location and relevant market evidence.

Before Scheduling

Confirm whether your insurer requires haul-out, a particular report form, current photographs or completion of prior recommendations. Providing those requirements early helps avoid unnecessary delay.
